HEADING BACK TO MY DEAR OLD DAD

ACROSS THREE STATES, North to South, The Entire East Coast. Queensland, New South Wales and all the way home to MY Victoria. Over 2,000 kilometres that started as another camping trip and ended as a necessity to make it back home in time.

Happy little camper in my outdoor element :-)

My trip started after returning from Indonesia and after hanging out with my mates in Noosa, I said my goodbyes and headed down to the border, to catch up with another dear old mate of mine, Tamara. We first met each other in the Swiss Alps, working during a few winter and summer seasons. It’s always great to meet up with a mate, here, there and everywhere.

Now we were catching up in Tweed Heads, and out for a drive in the Currumbin Valley. Out to adore the stretches of gently rolling green hillsides and off for a serene walk and talk through the ancient protected forests.

Next I was heading south, cruising the coast until Coffs Harbour. But I wanted Inland, I wanted the bush, the country, I wanted to cross that wall of a mountain range that practically spans across the entire Eastern States, the Great Dividing Range.

IMG_1167The beaches disappeared and the mountains began to swallow the landscape. I was taking so much of the view enroute but sometimes you just have to stop and breathe it all in.

Up and all, the, way, down..

Honestly, I didn’t realise how long the drive would take me getting down the coast and into the mountains. Not that I really cared either. Going up and over the Ranges and then past all the towns leading me ever further inland, into Central New South Wales. At that point I wasn’t in any rush. I was happy to just cruise, just to wander!

Brooding clouds come to greet me

It was a drive of changing seasons. Sunny summer vistas followed by darkened winter like skies and then back into the bluest of spring horizons with the makings of a storm brewing up to greet my arrival.

I happily stopped to take photos of the storms that were building up around me. Who doesn’t love a good storm on the horizon?? All that energy just waiting to be released!!

IMG_1186I was finally Central now, apparently on the highway of the Planets. So I got comfortable, I was out of reception. When I ventured out the next morning and the phone was being so active, I knew that it couldn’t be good news. My father had taken ill and it was just a matter of days.

So, I drove the next 1,000 kilometres on a mission to beat some mystic clock. To make it in time to see my Dear Old Dad, one more time. Thankfully, I made it and had four lovely days to show him how much he was truly loved by me and all the family. But the clock did stop and my precious father made his departure.

Love you, My Sunshine..
